Amstel (female maine coon) is retiring and looking for "her" bar... - Houston, Texas
Updated: Sep 30
UPDATE: SHE HAS FOUND HER HOME.
I am extremely sad to announce Amstel is officially closing her tab at our bar. She was set to have her second litter soon, BUT ...there's being too many gang signs and threats being thrown up between her and Sazerac. Sazerac is the current alpha ...and Amstel does not like it and continues to test Sazzy's very tight ship (don't move, don't breathe in my direction or I will Kungfu chop you up). It was under control by giving each separate times they are in each room, but Amstel decided last week she wanted to still "test" things... and has started peeing on random things. I believe it's in an effort to say "F" you to Sazerac and try to claim head alpha. Aren't intact females great? ...and YES, this is all very normal and something I always deal with. MOST of the time, the females respect whoever is "Queen."
It's only been a week since she started this habit as she has never done this before, BUT if a female starts marking AND IS NOT IN HEAT (because while in heat - this is common) ...I immediately have them fixed in an effort to curve the behavior. I always care more about her being happy in a home she doesn't pee... than me getting another litter from her. She has just been fixed AND has peed once... but in my head... I would like to believe she'd stop if she wasn't in this home. However, I could be VERY very wrong. Her mother was the same exact way and is THRIVING in her new home. In fact, I had just read that she's their lovebug... and her mom and her are one of my most affectionate lines.
She is extremely healthy and if she hadn't started marking.. I planned to offer her for 1800... but due to the marking, she is free to the right home.
Amstel is not for someone who wants a cat who sleeps all day. She is looking for things to play with. If you have lots of "small" gadgets out on counters (which is fine if they're not breakable)... she will sometimes see if she can knock it down. To me, she is not trouble. She doesn't do this to our cups (knock on wood) but just things we leave in the middle of the counter like a medicine bottle or small ziplock bag with a cookie in it. She is normal if you know cats. The more she's paid attention to ...by grabbing her to be held, the more and more she spends time WITH YOU and not looking for fun. Or if she has little mice to chase. She tends to do this if the toys are all stuck under the couch. She always sits on my feet when I get ready and when I cook. She is very sweet. ...like she lives to be doted on. She loves being "seen" if that makes sense.
She does have another habit that SEEMS innocent and majority of the time is funny ...but as a result... is not going to be good for the fragile or very young. If you bend over even unintentionally to pick up something you dropped or to grab something..... she loves to jump on your back. Cute right? It would be but she is someone who has her nails extended most of the time (naturally not because she'd mad). I've never seen her "mad." It's cute if you were prepared and noticed her there.. however, even when we try to be on high alert... she has caught all of us off guard OR WITHOUT A SHIRT ON.... and we have all screamed in pain multiple times. We are big kids with steel panties (weird, but kinda true lol)... and we can handle it, but even if you're Arnold Schwarzenegger... you will scream if caught off guard. She is doing it out of love and her constant need to be WITH YOU but she does not care if you're 80 or 8 years old. She will do it... and it's not fair for her to be in a home who doesn't "get" her need to be WITH you.
She is easy going and I think would do fine in most homes. However, I think she'd be less likely to pee if she didn't have other cat threats. I don't know though... she may pee either way .....If you're someone who is not TYPE A... her pee will go unnoticed and it would definitely become a habit. She needs someone to retrain her. We have already begun this.
She also eats wet food so you would have to be okay to continue this. She is the BIGGEST piggy ever... so if you're cheap.... she is not for you.
If you’re still feeling called to bring her into your life, know you are getting such a sweet loyal big female. She loves everyone and loves attention. I absolutely love everything about her... even her quirks. She loves a good window with cat tree or space to sit/lay down, but she'd give that up in a heartbeat if you're going to play with her. She is only 1 yo (almost 1.5), and we "prefer" homes close enough that can drive to us.
here’s what we’ll need to apply.
Email the following to mitchacoontails@hotmail.com
• Name • Your full address and location.
• How do you plan to pick her up?
• A photo of yourself and the family she would live with. I don't want AI crap ...and yes, it happened a lot last time.
• A snapshot of your living room and kitchen ...not in perfect form, and I will run it through to see if it has been edited. For pete's sake, just give me a picture of your real life room. Y'all are too much sometimes. I will later ask you to buy at least three litterboxes that she currently uses and another picture of them in your living room... so expect that.
• A list of the other pets currently on your guest list at home. How do EACH of them get along with cats?
• Acknowledgement of her problem and how you plan to work with her or cope if needed.
• Have you ever dealt with a cat who pees?
• Will you be able to continue feeding her wet food and the kibble she eats? You will be asked to buy it in advance if selected and show me.
This is a wonderful opportunity to own not just a maine coon but a gorgeous one from Mitcha Coontails. Her personality far trumps her flaw.
Amstel isn’t just looking for a house — she’s looking for her next barstool.
